Does anyone have information on B L Hook and his connection with the design and pattent of Whiting's Grecian flatware design?

The correct name on the flatware maker is B. L. Hood. Benjamin L Hood of New York. I am curious if Henry O. Hood is related to Benjamin. Does anyone know if Whiting bought their designs for their Grecian flatware?

Reviving an old post, I wish I could give the definitive answer concerning the connection between Benjamin L Hood and Henry O Hood and maybe the question has been resolved by now anyway, but I can say that both Benjamin L and Henry O Hood were in Washington D C in 1870 and were in their trade. Also both of them have their names on an elevated railway patent from that era.

My guess is that they were brothers just because they were both born in New York in the same decade. Unfortunately, a guess is all that it is.

I have looked into the pair with Hood family researchers in the past. They were either brothers or 1st cousins -- the matter is still open. Henry was in DC by 1852 at least, where his last children were born. Benjamin was only in the city for about a years and a half, returning to Albany in the winter of 1871. He had a long and difficult career in the city, working right up to his death in 1894. His original store was twice ransacked by thieves. The first time, in 1869, the losses were so great he was forced into making assignment for the benefit of his creditors. There were also rumors floating about that he had arranged the crime himself, perhaps explaining his short hiatus in DC. The second, in 1875, again forced him into hard times from which he never fully recovered, ending his days in a small shop at 71 South Pearl Street.

Benjamin's son Walter B who did become a jeweler in Albany was with his parents in Washington D C in 1870 and at eight years of age still in school.
