![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Picked up a small 8" ladle yesterday at an antique shop. Got it home and looked up the maker, J. Conning and it appears to fall under the classification of southern silver. It is stamped MOBILE. Can't find many other pieces of his and wonder if anyone is familiar with him. He's not listed on WEV's site for some reason. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() James Conning (1813-1872) was originally from New York, and moved to Mobile, Alabama in 1840s where he worked for the remainder of his career; at that time, Mobile was a major port location. In addition to silver, he was a Confederate sword maker. Here is a link to an article about him: James Conning, Confederate Sword Maker IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() He's one of the more commonly seen makers from Mobile, but that's still a great find! IP: Logged |
