I know wev's genealogical site is down at this time and was wondering if anyone could help with information on a maker named Samuel Place.

    Marriage: Christian Seaward on 9 May 1779 in Portsmouth NH
    Died: bef 2 Feb 1800, Dover NH

General notes:

    Silversmith

Events in his life were:
  • He is known to have been in Newburyport in his youth and may have apprenticed there. He served as a fifer at the Battle of Bunker Hill. 3

  • He worked from 1778 to 1790 as a silversmith in Portsmouth NH 3

  • Advertised in the New Hampshire Gazette (Portsmouth NH), 15 Sep 1778, announcing the he "makes all sorts of Goldsmith and Jewellers work." 3

  • Advertised in the New Hampshire Gazette (Portsmouth NH), 20 Dec 1785, announcing he had ""just arrived from England where he learned Clock and Watch making." 3

  • Obituary printed in the Mercury (Portsmouth NH) on 2 Feb 1800 3
    "Late of Dover, goldsmith, deceased." Notices also ran in the Dover Gazette, The Sun, and the County Advertiser.

    Samuel married Christian Seaward on 9 May 1779 in Portsmouth NH. (Christian Seaward was born on 15 May 1747 in Portsmouth NH and died on 8 Apr 1787 in Portsmouth NH.)
