![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The book "If Dishes Could Talk" by Mary L. Jackson has many interesting stories; mostly about dishes and china. This one is about a silver vase made for Daniel Webster in 1835, retailed by the Boston firm of Jones, Lows and Hall and made by Samuel L. Ward and Obadiah Rich. As seen in the last picture British potters incorporated the vase on to their transfer-ware plates. I have also seen the same design on pitchers. It was quite common for the British potters to make things that they thought would appeal to the American market. The quality of the pictures in this book are typical of those from the published in the 60s. A google search of "Daniel Webster vase" will bring up better pictures. I do not know if Mrs. Jackson's last comment of the obscure placement of the vase in the Boston Public Library still is accurate. Maybe someone from Boston knows how it is displayed today. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In looking at this vase I came across several websites that offered a free down load of the Jackson book. They say that they protect the authors rights, but this seems impossible as the do not charge anything. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Make sure your virus/malware/defensive's are working and up to date. Many of those free sites are "bad guy" sites. Just a visit/no download and they infect you. IP: Logged |
