I have a coffeepot, sugar bowl and creamer that have the words "silver on copper" engraved on the bottom, as well as three marks - a crown, the letter S, and a coat of arms. Is this possibly the "Sheffield Plate" I have been reading about? Any idea as to the age of the set? Any and all comments will be appreciated.

The mark as described is the Sheridan Silver Company of Taunton MA, begun in 1946. They only make silver plated holloware.

[Changed Tautnon to Taunton, and 1944 to 1946]

Normally, these marks are stamped, not engraved. Are you sure they're engraved?
