Silver "butler" (approx. 21X15") 3 marks.
  • First is shield with horse head faced right.
  • Second is shield w/ crown above containing an "F" w/ an S to the left and a "Co" to right. On the left edge of this mark is some sort of "winged beastie" (dragon?) and on the right edge what appears to be a unicorn.
  • Third mark is a shield containing 3 crows, ravens, whatever.
This make any sense?
Who made it?
Sterling?

Your "Butler" was made by the Friedman Silver Co. of Brooklyn, NY. They started production in 1908, and were bought out by Gorham in 1960. They appear to have specialized in silverplated holloware. They also made pewter under the trade name "Pilgrim Pewter".

Although Friedman may have made some sterling, if your piece is not marked sterling it very likely isn't.

Hope this helps!

Thank you, your knowledge and kindness is appreciated!

On even closer inspection, I can see a trace of "copper" showing near one foot which supports your conclusion.

Thank you again!
