Looks like an old tea kettle, silver or maybe pewter. I'm not too sure it is
quite a mess right now. Besides I have never owned a pice of either. It is about 4" in height. It has the following engraved on the bottom:

Meriden B. Company 1843.
It also has a picture of a scale, some kind of old double-beam scale.

I cann't find any information on the company. I work for aconstruction company and found it in a house we demolished.

The piece is silver plate, made by the Meriden Britannia Company of Meriden, CT. It probably dates from the late 1800's. If it is in decent shape, try some silver polish on it and see if you can't bring out the shine. If it is broken, badly dented, etc., it probably isn't worth putting much effort into it. If it is in good condition other than the dirt and tarnish, and can be polished up, it might be of collectible interest.
