I just aquired a Wilcox silver tray when my mother passed away this month with the markings 'I' and 'S' in boxes then below that, International Silver Co. then Saybrook Manor and 5272 under that. I have no idea of the age or value. It is very heavy and has a lot of intricate flowers carved on it. Can anyone help me with age?
Thank you for your time,
Lea aka Dangergirl X

Hello Dangergirl X,

Sorry I didn't get to this more quickly. Your tray is 20th century American silverplate. Wilcox was one of the many companies which combined forces in 1898 to form International Silver Co. The Wilcox name and trademarks were used until at least 1961. The [I][S] marks seem mainly to date from the 1930s on up, so your tray likely dates from, say, 1930-1960. When was your mother married? It might have been a wedding present.

Saybrook Manor may be the name of the pattern. Some holloware was made in named patterns starting around the 1930's. It often matched flatware of the same name. I can't locate a flatware pattern with this name, but who knows. The other option is that your piece is a piece of Hotel Ware, and that Saybrook Manor is the name of a hotel.

I hope this helps out a bit. As for value, we do not give values here, but you might try watching eBay for similar items to see what they sell for.
