Hi,
I just purchased a beautiful tea set which is stamped Bennett-Merwin, New Milford Conn. and is dated: 1913. Can anyone give me any background about the set and its possible value or how to begin researching it? I did find some interesting information about the tragedy of one of the partners on the net but that's it so far. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Merry

Hi,

The Bennett-Merwin company was founded sometime prior to 1912, became Merwin Brothers briefly, and became the Merwin-Wilson Co. in 1913 after the death of one of the Merwin bothers. Your date is just perfect for the history of the set.

Your set is likely high-quality silverplate. The value will depend on condition, the size of the set (number of pieces), and the style. Silverplate tea sets are fairly common, so a sweep of local antiques shops should show you what similar sets are selling for. I'm afraid that the maker is less important than the factors mentioned above when determining a value.

I hope this helps!
