I have recently come across an oval shaped silver dish marked Wm Rogers 419. The "m" is underlined and it has an eagle on one side of the name and a star on the other side. It measures 12-1/2" x 7-1/2" and has a fluted edge that is scalloped.

I don't know anything about this. I am wondering if anyone can tell me an approximate age of this piece.

Any help you could give me would be appreciated.

The "(eagle) Wm. Rogers (star)" mark was used on silver-plated holloware (from 1938 to 1976) by the International Silver Co., Meriden, Connecticut. Your dish was made during that time. The "419" is a stock number.

Hope this helps!

In the 19th century, many names were abbreviated in common use. William was often abbreviated with the m underlined, indicating that it was shortened. Thomas sometimes was also abbreviated THo with the o underlined for the same reason.
