I have several knives which are signed Hascall & Brown, Rutland, VT 12. I can find no information on the makers. There are no other marks on these knives. They are quite big,9 4/8" long with a blade width of 7/8". Can anyone help me. Any information would be welcomed.

Hascall & Brown were probably retailers and not manufacturers. They may also have been platers.

What kind of knives are they? Do you know the name of the pattern? This might help establish when the knives were made.

Once you determine that, you might try the Rutland Historical Society, 96 Center Street, Rutland, VT 05701, 802 775-2006. Also, the Rutland Free Library, 10 Court Street, Rutland, VT 05701, 802 773-1860, fax: 802 773-1825.

Thank you for those suggestions Steven. There is no pattern to this dinner knife. It has the same shape as a Reed and Barton 1886 "Renaissance" knife. It appears to be all one piece. I will contact the Historical Society and the Library.
