I recently purchased what I thought was a 15"X20"footed silverplate meat carving platter with drip well. I was pleased to get it for $40.00 as I needed one for the Christmas Turkey.
On cleaning it, I found the following marks on the underside of the rim. Can anyone help in indentifying them?

The letters "L.B.S.CO." followed by the symbols "4SIDED CROSS, CROWN, BELL" and the numerals "882"

The "cross, crown, bell" could be an undocumented mark of the Lehman Brothers Silverware Corp. of New York City, in business from the 1920s to the 1970s.

They used marks designed to imitate English plater's marks or English hallmarks -- often referred to as pseudo hallmarks.

The "882" is a catalog number.

More likely, it is a mark of the Lawrence B. Smith Co. (unknown silver mark)

Marks of both firms are documented in Rainwater/Redfield's "Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufacturers."
