I acquired this a while ago and wondered if anyone else knew what it was. Thought I'd post it awhile before I give the answer... it's silverplate and unmarked, but interesting! (Dog is 1 3/4" tall and the bottom curved, free-swinging part is 3 1/2" long.) confused

When you run in for an absinthe, you set the dog on the edge of the table and hang the mesh bag with the goat head on the hook. Right?

Correct! Well a handbag hook is what I was told and it's not a half bad idea here either.

Give the man a big cigar!!! smile

We have a new winner. The cigar now goes to Patrick.

For those who like a drink with their fine cigar, it is a cigar holder and flask combination. The cigar tube and flask looks like a double cigar holder, but the area for the second cigar is actually a flask with a screw-on gasketed lid.

How we digress. What a combination, cigars, absinthe and, uh, well...

I can't even look at this post without cracking up! This gets the "where-did-you-ever-find-the photo" prize.

A cigar holder flask combo! My husband and I tried to figure it out last night, but got nowhere. He'll be glad to have the puzzle solved.

Patrick, did you know or just guess?

I have seen one of these flasks/cigar holders before, new I think - but I can't remember where.

Toulouse Lautrec had a hollow walkingstick or cane to contain a flask of absinthe.

"I sit at my door smoking a cigarette and sipping absinthe, and I enjoy everyday without a care in the world" So said Paul Gaugin in 1897.

However, on 11 August 1901, the Pernod plant (which originally made absinthe) in Pontarlier caught fire after it was struck by lighning. The fire burnt for four days.

Don't say you haven't been warned.
