I have a pair of wonderful lidded silver plated servers with british registry marks and some makers marks. Looks like k uu & Co. Please see pics.

Can you help me identify maker and perhaps date these...Thanks! Melody

This site offers a "translator" of English design registration marks: lozenge translator

Although it is primarily intended for antique glass, the letters & numbers sequence should hold true for other materials.

If so the registration date is 5th June 1857.

The actual date of manufacture, however, could be several years later.

The letters are H & W. Not listed in Wyler's Book of Sheffield Plate

I did wonder about Henry Wilkinson & Co, of Sheffield, but I have absolutely no evidence.

If you ever have time to spare in London, you could visit the Public Record Office and find out who registered the design. The very top number (I) is the category and the bottom (2) is the parcel number for the day in question.

Quite some time back, I did have an address for the Registry, where you could write and ask for this information. Since the Sheffield Assay office is online, I wonder if the Registry Office would be?
