I have found a great pairpoint nut bowl but it has recently been replated. Does replating affect the value of the bowl and should it affect the price I am willing to pay?

thanks

Hello. My opinion is that replating does affect value because pieces look too new and shiny. Conversely, some buyers like that look. The most important factor is whether the newly plated sheen is bothersome to you. You should ask yourself if you would rather wait until an original condition example comes along, and if the nutbowl rare enough that you may not see another one again.

I agree with the Dorothy Rainwater quote passed along by Stephen, as long as there is actual wear-through of the original silver finish. It is essential to use a reputable silver restoration company and desirable to oxidize the piece after replating. Oxidizing after replating provides the appearance of an older silver finish. Vi
