does anybody know what the mark of a bee signifies on silver plate - is it a maker's mark or does it signify a period or date?

Various manufacturers have used bee marks at different times - including, I believe, Adelphi of New York and Christofle of Paris. A photo or more detailed description of your mark might narrow down possibilities.

[Thanks for the suggestions - I think Adelphi is a good possibility because the item is something they could very well have made but their mark seems more often to have been a beehive, so I will investigate Christofle also - thanks again.
