I have a sterling (?) napkin ring, approximately 1 1/2" high, 1 5/8" in diameter. The ends have patterns and the middle has a "waist." The mark inside is a star with the letter "W" inside it and the number "065" below the star. I would appreciate any information about the maker and the age of this item.

Thanks,
Margaret

If your napkin ring is silver, there should be hallmarks. Could it be that the number "065" is in reality when you turn it around "S90"? That means it is silverplated. 90 is the degree of silverplate. I enclose a foto of some mark "star with the letter W inside". If this is your mark on the napkin ring, than it is from the German firm:
Johann Däumig, former Hermann Walter in Halle (town) an der Saale (river). I think it is from the 50´s.

Hope that helps

Picture would be a big help.

Wallace used a w-in-star on some of their nickel silver pieces.
