Hello,

I have a plate that I would like more information about. I've read a year of past posts, so have already learned quite a bit.

The stamp says "Meriden Silverplate Co. Quadruple Plate"

The number stamp is 1771.

Inside the stamp cirlce appears a lion holding something (a vase?) or a very funky horse standing on all fours. If it is a lion, it is much cruder than the Meriden images I've seen on the net.

There may also be a number 11 or the letter H stamped on the bottom edge.

Inside the bowl of the plate is stamped a (frontier?) image a boy, girl, and baby in high chair. The girl is holding a treat aloft for a dog.

Base on what I've read, I'm guessing that the plate dates between 1869 -1898.

Is the 1771 a catalog number?

Is there somewhere I might read the original description or see a rendering of the original plate?

Many thanks for any help.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Please read the first post that says "Please read before you post" and add the requested information such as why you would like to know the information and how to post a photo. It is not possible to tell you much without these things.

In general though, your assumption about your plate being made between 1869 and 1898 is not correct. International Silver did absorb Meriden in 1898, but that doesn't mean much in the world of silver plated things. International Silver kept on using the markings of the companies they absorbed for many decades after they absorbed them - I think it was a marketing thing.

Thank you for your response.

I'm asking about the plate because I'm curious about it's design and history. That's why I wonder if the number 1771 realtes to a catalog and if so, how I would go about finding one.

I'm not able to post a picture at this time.

Yes, the 1771 would be the product number used for that particular plate. I do not have a collection of Meriden or International Silver Company catalogs though others might.
