I own a single-handled 3 inch Meriden cup stamped 113 below the scales symbol. Like to know if this is a common item or a rare example of 19th Century platework.

Hi, welcome to the forum. There is not much people here can tell you unless you post a good photo of your cup and the markings, provide some more information on it, and give us a better idea of what you would like to know.

Please read the instructions in the post at top of the page which says "Please read before you post" and add the additional information outlined there to your original post using the edit icon at the top of your post.

In general, though, asking whether something is "rare" has little meaning since the term is so subjective. If your interest is to determine whether it may be valuable or not, this forum does not provide this type of information and you will want to consult a qualified professional appraiser.

The 113 is the stock number. What determines the value is the amount of hand work on it. That would be the engraving and chasing which were done locally be jewelers. The stock number alone is not sufficient information to tell us what we need to know.
