My mother-in-law recently gave me some silver serving pieces, one looks to be a butter knife, round spoon with hole, tea spoon etc., 6 pieces in all.

The pieces are beautiful and have a mother of pearl handle with some sort of etching as a design.

Anyway, I can make out the following:
EPNS on the back of each piece

On the front of each piece:

J.A.S.

Then there are 3 squares:

1st square contains a Crown

2nd square contains what looks like walking lion with the head of the lion on the left

3rd square contain a roman letter, looks to be a capital N on one of them but the others are a little harder to make out, they could all be an N or O or D, but I think they are all N.

Could you please help me identify these markings?

The crown is Sheffield, where the silver was assayed.

The lion is a British hallmark for sterling, .925

The letter relates to the date it was made - depends on the shape of the letter N

J A & S is the maker's mark.

The EPNS stands for Electro plated nickel silver.

It's likely the ferrules are silver and the bowl/blade/tines are EPNS.
