These ads feature the stars of the International Silver Company radio hour, Ozzie and Harriet Nelson. They date to the late 40's. The ads measure 10 5/8" by 13 1/2", there is no date printed on them other than copyright 1949 etc. Most likely they came from Colliers, Saturday Evening Post or Life.

Sixty years ago, major silver companies could reach out to the public through mass circulation general interest magazines. This is comparable to advertizing on a major hit show on a network. No silver company today could afford a campaign of that magnitude.

The patterns shown are pre-war with the exception of Remembrance, which was the centennial pattern for IS. Which points to one of the developing problems for the silver makers: slowed down innovation. Even during the 30's, IS had introduced at least one new pattern a year. Remembrance came on market in 1947, followed by Daffodil in 1950, Heritage in 1953, Flair in 1956, Springtime in 1957 and Reflection in 1959.

During the post war boom, the most prosperous period ever for the US, IS introduced 6 patterns. During the Great Depression from 1929 to 1941, IS put out 9 new patterns.
