This mark is around. Found on flatware and holloware. Sometimes it is G.A.B. NS ALP.

G.A.B. = Guldsmeds Aktiebolaget

It appears that this mark has a number of users. One such company describes itself:

Bengt Hallberg Guldsmeds AB
Bengt Hallberg Guldsmeds AB, founded in 1947, is a family business in its third generation. The company, located in the midst of Sweden in the town of Köping, designs and manufactures handcrafted, high quality, jewellery collections in gold and silver with precious and semiprecious stones. The collaboration with the Swedish Museum of National Antiquities was initiated in beginning of the 1980s and the historical jewellery has since then become one of Sweden's most sought-after jewellery collections. Other trade marked jewellery collections from the company are: BEH Guldsmide, BEH Design, Vildmark and Vanity Jewellery. A selection of these collections can be seen at:

This company makes museum reproductions and lines of contemporary jewelry.

Here is another silversmith who worked for several companies using GAB:

Arne Erkers

Interesting overview of a Swedish designer's career. Trained as a silversmith, he eventually designed saw handles and jewelry.

I think we need to know more about this mark. Could it be for a cooperative form of business, like Orreförs? Hose_DK can you illuminate this?

I don't know much. GAB is 3 different companies - during time. 1913 is when the database was started - GAB was established before. Don't know when.
GAB GULDSMEDSAKTIEBOLAGET IN STOCKHOLM 1913- 1982
it becomes
GAB GULDSMEDSAKTIEBOLAGET GAB in ESKILSTUNA 1982- 1993
then it becomes
GAB AB GENSE in ESKILSTUNA 1993- still in business.
They manufacture silver that also is sold by others I suppose that these silver smiths buy manufactured products and add their own mark.

They also have designers that make patterns/designs - afterward sold by GAB.

Not sure what connection Bengt Hallberg or Sävsjö Guldsmeds have to GAB other than using "Goldsmiths Corporation" (Guldsmeds AB or Aktiebolaget) as part of their names. So far as I know, GAB has always been a manufacturer, at some point, they joined with Gense and later acquired Mema. Unless something has changed recently, all three companies are still associated.

Currently, both GAB and Gense are parts of K A Rasmussen, a Norwegian precious metals firm. A map of their products is here:

[<gone from the internet> ka-rasmussen.no/en/content.asp?AreaID=7&menuItem=169]
K.A.Rasmussen - Subsidiaries

History of Gense:

'Gense, an abbrevation of Gustaf Eriksson NySilverfabriken in Eskilstuna, is one of the leading cutlers in Europe. The company was founded in 1856, and has been making cutlery since the 1920s. Much of its present cutlery is reminiscent of its earlier models. The Danish branch of Gense traces its roots back to 1838 and the famous company Andersen & Burchart and later on the famous silversmith Carl M. Cohr and his magnificient silverware. Hence, timeless design, elegance and high quality materials and finish are the hallmarks of Gense.

The head office of Gense is located in Eskilstuna, Sweden and the company has subsidiaries in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Belgium and France. The high-quality products of Gense are produced in their own plants in Eskilstuna, Gembloux, Tallinn and Turku. Gense has been a part of the K.A.Rasmussen Group since 1995.'

Decopedia has the following information:

'Gense is known for its long tradition of manufacturing cutlery which is recognized by its functional design and timeless modernity. The company was established in 1856 by Gustav Eriksson in Eskilstuna, Sweden and is today one of Europe's leading producers of silver and stainless steel cutlery, gift items and cast iron. The company started off as a smithy producing doors to tile stoves, but before the turn of the century the company tunred its production to make cutlery and tableware in nickel silvers. Even products as coffee and tea-sets, bread baskets, trays, candlesticks and table space were set in production. In 1935 Gense started to manufacture cutlery and serving items in stainless steel. After just over a hundred years, in 1964, Gense became incorporated into Guldsmed Aktiebolaget GAB. The manufacturing expanded by including cutlery in silver.During the years, Gense have worked with talented designers to develop classic, innovative and functional cutlery with the right balance and feel. The company has received many prestigious awards for its cutlery designs, from the California State Award for the Focus de Luxe design in 1955 to the Stockholm?s Formidable award in 2006 for the new product Appetize. Gense is famous worldwide for the Nobel cutlery pattern, developed for the prestigious Nobel Price ceremony which is organized every year in December by the Swedish government. Since 1992, Nobel ceremony participants and Swedish Royal family use Gense's Nobel cutlery.'

And:

'Guldsmedsaktiebolaget was a manufacturer of artworks mainly in silver, silver-plate, tin and stainless steel. The company was founded 1867 in Stockholm, Sweden.'

Apparently, Gense became part of GAB in the 1960's. Currently, products are marketed in the Gense name, not GAB.
