Two weeks ago you not only told me about my coin silver, but sent me a picture of the silver smith. I need help again. I have a beautiful water pitcher with the marks UTEP. Underneath is the underlined word HALLMARK. Under that is the phrase H652. Then is impressed what looks like number ones underneath each other twice. My camera is lousy so I hope you understand what I've written. Thanks Cheryl from Louisiana

"Cheryl from Louisiana"

Hi, neighbor!

You might say I'm Susan from Mississippi!

"My camera is lousy so I hope you understand what I've written."

If one doesn't have a camera, get thee to a scanner. I have found scans of marks, trademarks, detail, etc... usually are much clearer than pics from a camera. 99% of the time in my postings I include a scan of the mark along with a pic of the overall object. If a pic of the object is terrible, I have been known to scan the whole object also. Examples of my postings using only scans:

Help with a Wm. A. Rogers trademark
W.S.P.CO. stamp on Clothes Brushes

"marks UTEP"

I can't spot this mark in Rainwater or Kovel. Being a bit facetious, Univ. of Texas El Paso? wink Seriously, others much more knowledgeable than me may be able to help you; however, without pics to help in dating, etc... you may not get any help.

--- Susan

Hi Cheryl,
Yes by all means scan the marks. This yeilds a much clearer detailed looks.
Sounds like a piece of commercial plate, Hallmark being someone's brand name. Generally, sterling water pitchers are few and far between. H652 is probably the stock number. It is very possible that this comes from the new lines of plated ware being imported. They have makers names I have never seen before. Check out a Target or BestBuy for an idea of what is on the market now.

Digital cameras are so common these days it is very easy to find a friend, family member, coworker, etc. who has one to borrow for a few minutes.

The UTEP marking sounds like the EP part of it would be Electro Plate, though I am not sure about the UT part. Whenever you see EP either by itself or in a combination with other letters on something that is most likely to be plated it almost always means electro plate. Are you sure the first two letters are UT? If the UT letters are for sure, it could be some kind of meaningless marketing phrase unique to this company that they made up to get people to buy it - maybe something like Ultra Triple Electro Plated.
