As Promised, I have found the first two Souvenir Spoons to share, both involving Queens of England.

The first one is Silverplated and approximately 5". What makes it such a curiosity is that it is commemorating Queen Elizabeth when she was yet a princess. The image on the spoon is a likeness of her at about age 7. I believe the image is a reproduction of the painting: "Princess Elizabeth of York at the age of seven, 1933" painted by Philip de László when she became "Heiress presumptive".

This is the only souvenir spoon I have ever seen commemorating that event, so it is pretty special for me. I've never seen another sterling or silverplated. Since it is Silverplated, date codes were not required, but my guess is that it was produced in 1933 at the time of the event.

The second queen spoon I have is of Queen Victoria. This is made from OLD HEAD coins circa 1893-4?

I found the following comment on the coin at internet coin site:

quote:
"Old Head" variety which is among the most popular and scarce,..."

Maybe they are scarce because people were making them into souvenir spoons?

This spoon is quite small, only 2 3/4 inches. I think there is some writing on the 3 little wires around the handle, but I cannot make it out with any of my magnifying glasses nor my jeweler's loupe. Oh well. It's a pretty cool little spoon nonetheless.

Well, anyway, I hope you find these interesting conversation starters.

I will try to find more of my interesting spoons to show.
