Can you tell me anything of a 4 piece tea set (the 4th piece is the refuse container for the used tea leaves) that I recently acquired? The stamp on the bottom says

Silver Metal Mfg Co.

There are different numbers on each of the 4 pieces and then there appears to be some crossed out scribble below the numbers and name.

I appreciate any light you can shed on my inquiry as I have been totally frustrated in my research.

Thank you for your help.

Jane

The Silver Metal Mfg. Co. (of Lyons and Oswego NY)was founded in April, 1892 as "a general stock company to produce table wares from a metal newly invented by Dr. D. J. Toothill." It moved to new quarters in Oswego later the same year. This is from Rainwater and a note to myself that I can barely read. I have not tracked down what exactly this new metal may be, but suspect it was a variation on Britannia or nickel silver.
