Hello to all.

I have looked in several books at the library and cannot find anything out about my serving fork.

On the back is PAT.JAN1408 followed by a cross or plus sign followed by a capitol W., followed by capitol R., followed by what looks like a pot or teapot with a lid. This is a great site and I'm learning a lot!

Thanks to all.

THANKS TO ALL!!!

MY PIECE IS Pattern: CARNATION (SILVERPLATE, 1908) by ONEIDA/INTERNATIONAL Still kind of baffled by the "teapot"! And yes this fun!

Again many thanks to all who helped!
Sandy

Hi

I have had it mentioned to me that such a mark may be for William Rogers, but I doubt it given the date of the patent and the fact that William Rogers (and the rest of that dynasty) were out of the silver game by 1893. However, I'm not much of an expert in US silver, so perhaps someone else can help out?

Cheers

Could the final mark look like an Indian pot shape or an amphora? If so, the mark is one used by William Rogers for their line of "half plate", which was low to medium grade silver plated flatware.

Hi there,

Have to agree with doc, though I've always perceived that "pot shaped" mark as a keystone. As for the dating, I believe William A. Rogers, Ltd. was in business until 1929, and many of their marks were used by Oneida after that, so 1908 should fit right in there. I won't even pretend to say that I understand the intricacies of all those Rogers marks and which ones were merged into International, or Oneida, or were unrelated. Not to mention what marks were used when and on what.
