Okay I know nothing about silver.

Today I came across some "silver" that I remember my mom polishing when I was a kid.

Hopefully someone can help me out and let me know if it's silver, silver plated, or whatever... ??

Unfortunately I can't post any pics because I don't have a camera

I have a wine chiller and a serving tray, and they are heavy. Also a oval shaped bowl/platter. I can't find any kind of markings on them anywhere.

A baby sippy cup
markings: it looks like 2 lions holding a shield and inside it is O L. under that it says ONEIDA

A spoon
markings: MROGERS & SON AA. and an A in a square. that's all I could make out...

Tea/coffee pot
ROMAN
Silversmiths
EPC

The rest of these pieces are a set.
2 coffee/tea pots, a sugar bowl, and a creamer.
one of the pots says, Gorham
E (a shield with an anchor) P
YC 1552
and the other one along with the other 2 pieces say
ALVIN
EP
RC 1551 (sugar bow) RC 1553, (creamer) RC 1554

Sorry I must sound like a complete idiot, but I would like to know what I have...

OK, first of all, you are not a complete idiot. I started collecting Victorian sugar sifters when I was doing my doctoral research in Britain. My wife and I found the spoons interesting and affordable. I learned about hallmarks later. Figuring them out can be very challenging, but also fun. Hence this forum.

As for your silver, "EP" usually means "electroplated," which would make it roughly post 1850. I suspect "EPC" means "electroplated copper."

I believe American silver is usually labeled "sterling," so I suspect your other pieces are plate as well.

I have a piece of silver with "Rogers" flanked by anchors followed by "AA." It is a pattern called "Alhombra" patented in 1907. It is silver plate.

Here is what the pattern looks like.

Hope this helps,
TM
