[26-1598] Since the beginning I'm collecting silver (mostly silvered objects). I bought a EP spoon made in the U.K. I've understood that the letters H B & H means Harrison Brothers and Howson and that they produced EP silvered objects between 1862 and 1925. I can't find information about the date letter, does anybody knows if the last letter A stands for the date letter and which year is this server spoon is made? Any information is most appreciated. I send a photo with the marks for indication. [ IP: Logged |

No, A is not a date letter; it may be intended as an indication of quality like the "A1" which is often seen on electroplated items, but probably doesn't mean much. As far as I am aware only Elkingtons date-coded their electroplate. Phil IP: Logged |

Phil, Thank you so much for your interesting information, it's good to know that 99.9% of the English EP factories don't use date letters on their flatware. I only have a few spoons but I was curious about the date. Belgium use also A1 for indication of silver percentage used in their silverware. But I think you knew that already. I believe that the A1 symbol relates to the approximate thickness of the plate. A1 would be light plate vs AAA which is triple plate. A alone is the same as A1 IP: Logged |

Thanks a lot Kalikiss for explaining, I've understood what you said and it was really helpful. IP: Logged |
