We found several items at the flea market this month of interest. This one is a slice of some sort that has a silver plate blade, but a sterling band around the horn handle. The band was made in Sheffield in 1899 and the blade was sold by Henry Birk and Sons of Montreal and Quebec. The maker of the band had the initials WY, but I have not found out who that was or who actually made the blade as Birk was a retailer only.

Horn was popular this month at the flea market.

We went to Nashville for a birthday party for a friend that just became a US citizen last week. By chance her birthday was on the 4th of July and that for a new citizen is a very good day to have a party and celebrate both events.

It also gave us an opportunity to get to a Nashville again and look at some of the antique stores. Horn items keep popping up in this area. These are horn handled knives with the name W. R. Weiss on the blade. There are silver bands on both ends of the horn handle that must be silver plate as they are not marked.

They have attractive initials engraved on the ends of the knife that I think are TT or FF. I really do not know how old these are, but we (mostly my wife) are looking for things to use for a rustic or country fall dinner party.
