These are photos of a lemon strainer made in Old Sheffield Plate (OSP). The strainer is not marked, but I think based on style it is late 1700s. The beaded pattern first showed up in this time period, went out of style and reappeared in the mid-Victorian period after Electoplate replaced OSP. Also Michael Adams in his book on Silver Lemon Strainers shows the open loop handle design starting around 1780. IP: Logged |
