Just found this ½ spoon from a U.S. Civil War dig... found among some mini balls. Too small and too worn to take pictures...
A puzzle.
Can anyone figure out the spoons origin? I will do my best to describe some of the markings that remain.

….EST....

...ANA...

remains of a crown with a small cross inside crown on right.

Under crown is ..…STAL.....

The spoon is the handle of the spoon cut down for travel.
Hope someone can figure this out.

It certainly sounds interesting.

If you could please take a look at the big yellow box near the top of the page where is says in flashing red letters 'Please read before you post' and add the requested information on the 'why' of your post and then also add some clear photos with closeups to your post we will try to help you.

Without photos there is really very little a person can say since there are so many similar markings and one needs to see just what the markings are along with the overall shape and style of the spoon. If you use the macro function on your camera and light the markings from the side that should make them stand out a little better.
