As a new member of the forum, I have been encouraged to introduce myself. I am a collector and a perpetual student. I have just begun an interest in collecting silver. My wife and I have recently taken trips to Italy, England, Scotland and Wales and purchased a few souvenir spoons. I started looking into purchasing more when she expressed an interest in the hobby - and discovered a wealth of older silver spoons which I find quite interesting. Also, we have antiques throughout the house - some pieces of furniture made by ancestors in the 19th century. Our kids used to complain about being raised in a museum!

I have worked on family genealogy - studying Old German Script along the way - and traced both sides of the family to the early 17th century in Germany.

I have collected stamps (why wasn’t I collecting gold @ $36/oz? Answer: too expensive!!!) since I was a child and also some sports cards. I have an interest in archaeology and have written a couple of journal articles. I collect artifacts. I enjoy study and research. My educational background is quite varied as is my work experience (I retired 6 years ago).

Along with my new interest in silver, I have started digging out some of our inherited silver to see what I can learn about it. It is fascinating! There are some marks which I have not been able to identify (one is in my post of 12/8/2010 Cowles - which one?).

The bug has bit!
