Greetings,

My name is John and I live Just North of Dallas, Texas USA. I have always been in love with antiques for their quality, craftsmanship and design. My wife and I travel to auctions and estate sales to find things to decorate our home with, then sell when tired of looking at them ..if ever...or to just make room for more.

Silver is a more recent addition to our stable. The designs are fabulous and plate not that expensive so we are headed that way.

I recently came across a Simpson Hall Miller piece pattern 4200 and was hoping someone could tell me something about it.

  1. about what year was it manufactured.
  2. Is it supposed to have the crystal drops on it.
  3. What used to go on top, is it a candle holder or a lamp?
  4. Any online reference to the company history besides the small blurbs you find here and there?
Could not find this one on-line. Any information would be helpful.

It appears that you have a piece of what looks like was once a candelabra. There should be a second part that is multiple candle holders on an array of arms that come together and end in a piece that would fit into the socket on the top of your base. And there would have been at least a pair of such candelabras or possibly two pairs (a total of four). If someone has an old catalog from this company they could look up pattern number 4200 and say for sure if this is correct.

I've seen her before, circa 1890s fruit stand, missing the art glass bowl(Bohemian, English?) - don't recall seeing the crystals/prisms before, suspect later embellishment. In addition to getting the broken over the years, the bowls were also snapped up by glass collectors who didn't want the ornate bases. Similar figural pieces can be found in a number of 1890s silverplate manufacturer's catalogs.

Thanks, Cheryl! I was mistaken about what went on top in the socket there. I like the art glass bowl.
