Hi,

And oops! I bought this while on vacation and posted it before I caught up on other posts. The Getty Museum post shows a wine strainer that is similar in form to this one.

My much more modern one has a very few small holes at the top of the bowl and they are too small for water to pass through so it really couldn't be used as a strainer. Perhaps it is just a gift shop item? The piece is about 8 inches long and marked 123 of 300, 925, and has another mark that I haven't been able to photograph or read. Any ideas of the maker? The drawing pictured is a rough approximation.

Thanks for your help.

A wine strainer at the Walters Art Museum is similar, but it has holes for draining the fluid. In the case of the Walters example they speculate that is was for decanting wine.

I cannot explain why your strainer does not have any holes. It appears to be a limited edition since it is number 123 out of 300. Maybe only the even numbers had holes.

Attractive strainer and you might want to add holes.

Thanks for posting a picture of the museum strainer.

Unfortunately, I am not a deft hand with a hammer so my "strainer" will be purely decorative. Odd to go to all the effort to reproduce an old form and then make it useless. The non-strainer weighs about 3.3 ounces so it has a nice feel to it. Guess it will just always be a mystery.

And thanks for posting your table settings pictures,AHWT, I always enjoy seeing them and your wonderful collections.

Thanks jt251 for your nice comments. I will pass them on to my wife as for the most part I am just around for the ride. Interesting and exciting ride however.
