Hello silver friends,

I recently required a very nice caster of appr. 19 cm high
and dating around early 18th c. I am puzzling with the hallmarks. I guess this is German but I'm not sure. Does anyone recognize these marks ?

Many thanks in advance

I thought so at first too, but it has a long upturned tail, so it is a lion.

If i only look at the shape of the cartouche, straight line on top and half round below, it suggests an animal standing up.

Thanks for al the help

I know it was a leap ... what caught my attention was the "tail"...

What do the three hills signify? What about 4 hills?

Thanks for the clarification about Vaihingen verses Grafen von calw.

Also does the fancy tail verses a plain tail signify anything?

Probably only the skill of the engraver and/or the preference of the designer of the town shield - the mark is pretty crude,

in Vaihingen the deer antlers over the lion are an important mark.
The deer antlers symbolizes the counts of Württemberg.
