It was the auction results and it was picture and result of a mounted emu/ostrich egg. It was by a New Zealand maker, Salomen. I think it was a 2001 edition and the cup sold for 6400 pounds. ahwt Posts: 2334 Registered: Mar 2003	posted 09-06-2013 10:48 PM A mounted emu egg inkwell was recently sold at auction, but it was retailed by Salomon and made by William Edwards of Melbourne. An internet search of “mounted emu egg silver” brings up quite a few attractive pieces. These must have been popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s. I did look through the 2001 issues of the Silver Magazine and did not see any such eggs. quote: Lot 256 An Australian silver and gilt mounted emu egg inkstand by William Edwards, Melbourne circa 1870 retailed by N. Salomon Dunedin, New Zealand "N.SALOMON/DUNEDIN" the 3/4 horizontally mounted egg with lion mask handles, on an oval beaded chased base with applied seated indigenous hunter holding a club and two emus, fern stem issuing large branches,the egg opening to reveal an inkwell, domed cover with engraved decoration and emu finial amongst ferns, all on an oval wooden plinth and vacant cartouche 26cm (10") high. Sold Footnotes Exhibited: Powerhouse Museum Sydney 198492. The Mint 1995-96, 'Australian Gold and Silver 1851 -1900'. Reference: See various advertisements in the 1870sTuepeka Times, for "N.
