I'm new to this form and I hope I'm posting in the right place. Don't want to be kicked out before I get started.

My In-laws gave us a 5 piece tiffany tea set and I've been having fun learning all about it. It took me a while but i finally figured out what and who the "B" represented on the bottom. I've got 2 questions for those who know anything about Bogert. What type of relationship did he have with Tiffany because it seems as though it was short lived. Did they not like his work, etc?? My other question is how would I find out who the initials embossed on the pieces belong to? I can post a picture of it if that would help.

Photos are an absolute 'must' since there are so many similar markings. Also, the photos need to be of both the entire object from one or two different angles plus closeups of the details and any markings.

Tiffany is highly counterfeited and markings do not mean much if the overall object is not clearly one of theirs.

Also, the folks here are all silver lovers and part of the atraction for them to be here is to be able to see interesting pieces of silver.

Finally, please make sure you size your photos according to the guidelines that you can bring up by clicking on 'how to post photos' in the yellow box near the top of this page.

Do you collect silver and have any particular areas of interest?

Thanks for getting back to me so fast. To answer your question , I do not collect silver but you never know. I have found researching this particular silver to be fascinating.

A search of the internet shows several items from William Bogert that were retailed by “D. Austin & Sons 95 FIFTH AVE at about the same time as he was selling to Tiffany. I am not familiar with this retailer.

Just having initials of the owner is not very much to go on. I would ask the owner before your in-laws if they have any clue as to previous owners. That has worked a couple of times for me, but in those cases the previous owner was actually a family member.

Good luck in your hunting.
