Hi,

This German sliver shot glass has the town mark for Darmstadt. My question is how early would you have a Crescent moon, Crown and the silver purity in the thousands number with the Darmstadt assayers mark?

Also is the cartouche applied to the shot glass?

In addition, the horse tack shown I believe is for a German artillery horse of the 19th century. Does any one know of a connection between the horse tack shown on the silver shot glass and the German town of Darmstadt?

Note: The shot glass is 1 oz.

Finally, is it common for the Town mark to be sideways to the other silver marks?

Thank you for your time in considering my questions.

Regards,
Stoystown

Hi - it's not the Darmstadt city mark, it's a maker's mark - possibly Gebrüder Deyhle of Schwäbisch Gmund or E.L. Vietor of Darmstadt. Will have to take your word on the tack - from what I can make out with my failing eyesight, the horse appears to be wearing a normal bridle, in the surrounding tack, along with the horseshoe, there's a full-cheek snaffle, what appears to be a regular hunt saddle and maybe a crop - equine themes were popular on shot glasses...
