New here to the forum.

I will tell a bit about myself. I am from the baby boomer generation. I am still gainfully employed. I love wiener dogs and hostas not necessarily in that order. I have grown children and grandchildren and I am going to be getting married for the second time over Labor Day weekend. that is what brings me to my silver question and this forum. I do not intend to sell anything just soak up as much knowledge as I can about things that interest me.

My hubby to be and I are getting married in a historical museum(which we thought was appropriate for two old relics.) Giving thought to the venue we decided to look through our homes and find collectibles that we could use for table centerpieces. From there we decided to try to find a piece from each decade a far back as we could go. So far we have pieces from 1870-2010. We are making up cards to go with each piece to tell a bit of history about each piece. For example we have a James Tufts quadruple Bride's basket. We have quite a bit of info on that. We also have many glass pieces. What brings me to this forum is a Homan plate. I have some info about the history of the company but would like to know when the pieces were made. It is a tea set. Sorry I am so long winded but any help would be awesome!

see the PDF by T-Bird-Art Some Old Line Silver Companies

quote:
The Homan Manufacturing Company

was established in 1847 in Cincinnati, Ohio. About 1864, the Homan Silver Plate Company gradually changed from the manufacture of pewter, britannia and German silver to electroplated silverware. They also did gold plating. Their regular products were ecclasiastical wares (chalices, patens, beakers, tankards, baptismal bowls, alms dishes and candlesticks). They also manufacturered Ohio-Mississippi River Boat equipment (bowls, pewter plates, beakers, trenchers, charges, tea sets and swivel lamps. Bar equipment and items for domestic use (tea and coffee sets, cups, ewers and basins, warming pans, pitchers, jugs, sugar sifters, pewter combs, special frames, clockweights and buttons.). Arround 1896, the name of the firm was the Homan Silver Plate Company which was succeeded by Homan Manufacturing Company between 1904 and 1915. They went out of business in 1941.

Welcome, and best wishes on your upcoming marriage! I love your idea for centerpieces.

Just going by the style, that set looks to me like it might be from the 1920s-30s.

Thank you to those that replied.
I think from what I have read that the Homanplate tea set is 1900-1920. If anyone has additional information I would appreciate it but think I have enough to proceed. GREAT forum!

Welcome, though I'm hardly less new than you!

And being so new, I don't have much knowledge to share. But, I love the idea of the centerpieces! I hope you will post pictures from the wedding showing at least the silver one. What a great idea!

Could you please post another photo of the markings in the bottom? It is coming out blurry on my computer and I cannot see much detail. For extra sharp focus it is good to use the Macro setting on your camera. The macro setting on all cameras is designated by an icon that looks like a little flower. It allows you to get very close while it maintains the focus.
