Hello,

My name is Bernd, from Germany. I have been collecting silver & other antiques ever since my pocket money allowed, some 40 years now. Growingly I am interested in "the story behind" and concentrate on the research of new pieces.

Here I present you a teapot which actually ran down in the family since the 1840s, being probably a wedding gift, just revived from a very, very long cupboard-prison. The style indicates late Biedermeier. The "A" confirms a period from 1819-1842 (Wardeinmeister Andreack). F(riedrich) Saling was a Jeweller who became a Berlin citizen in 1834 and opened his presumably elegant shop in Berlin, Schloßplatz 4 in 1836 (court delivery & so on).

What I could not find out so far is the maker hiding behind "WG" - and here I ask for help. Also it would be interesting if F.Saling was in any way connected with another jewish jeweller dynasty in Berlin, salomon, converted: Saling, last August Simon Saling (Saaling) who died in 1828. Nothing is known about it's fate thereafter.

Thanks for reading, I'm looking forward to further details, especially coming from the honorable Blackstone, if still around smile
.
I have uploaded 3 Fotos on your page, but don't see an invitation to add them to this post. Admin, help!

Nice photos. Good job uploading them to the SSF Gallery.

To speed things up here are the photos. These are the steps I used How to Post Photos using the Silver Salon Forums Photo Gallery to add the photos.

F.SALING = Ferdinand Saling (ref. W.Scheffler, Berliner Goldschmiede, No1986a)
*1807 in Prenzlau, cit. 16.10.1834, 1836 Königlicher Hoflieferant.

About WG - I am not sure - he could be the maker or reseller - and it is not sure, that he was in Berlin.

there is an posibility in Berlin
Franz Friedrich Wilhelm Grave (Graff) in Berlin. *23.1.1802 in Magdeburg.
oo 23.5.1825 in Berlin. 1860 he was in Moskau.

Another teapot that shares some design elements of your teapot is an American one. They both have a three tiered upper portion that gives a stacked or squatty look and both have a radiating pattern coming from the bottom of the pot.
For some reason I have always found this pattern to be attractive.
