Hi: I hope those doing silver research could advise. Imagine there were a rather detailed, online compilation of a company's advertisements from c. 1870 - 1920, with the ads visible on the internet.

How useful is this to deepening knowledge about the company? For museum registrars, etc.? I tend to think it is useful and then isn't so much, but then I am maybe biased towards design trade catalogues. Having said that, I have seen ads reprinted in a few silver books. Sitting on the fence here... :-)

I think it would be very useful for identifying and dating things.

Yes please. Ads AND trade catalogs. Searchable of course.

Hi: Ok. It's an in-process thing here and if you go to www.artdesigncafe.com and click the "Design Meriden" button, scroll down to the silver companies (Wallace and Rockwell in the following section), you'll see a bunch that have been compiled and linked online. Please let me know what you think.

Also see new message I've posted. :-)
