Hi there! I collect quite a bit of Durgin when I can find it, and found this thread very interesting to date my little spoons with the bird mark:
Durgin Renaissance

But I have also seen some Durgin pieces with the D inside of a five-petaled clover or flower, as shown on this site:

Does anyone have any ideas when that mark would date to? I like to stay up on my Durgin history...

I am not a Durgin expert and I do not know any exact dates for this marking but it is one of the 4 different ones used by Durgin between 1853 and 1905. However, it could be even later since Gorham took over Durgin around 1905 and continued to use Durgin's markings on some of their silver up to around 1940. Perhaps the better way to tell would be by looking at the object on which the marking appears. While it is not usually possible to place an ending date once a design is created and put into production, there would be a beginning date that would make it no older than when it was first introduced. Perhaps someone else here is a Durgin expert and can add to this. Also, could you please post a photo of the object on which this particular marking is placed?
