Hello all,
I have this cool Persian bowl that I really like but haven't ever been able to find out much about it. It has "Iran" scratched into the bottom of it and I know the term "Iran" wasn't used formally until 1935. People sell their old stuff to tourist in markets in so many places so it could be older than that or more recent. . It seems to be well used and even have a repair on the bottom. I've only really dusted it off, never tried to polish it and it's pretty dull but possibly brass underneath. The etchings are nicely done but there is unevenness ( sides of arches not same angle etc) so maybe hand done? The etchings look like birds of prey and maybe deer/goats? What do you guys think? I really like it but am curious about its story. I'd love to hear what you guys think! 😊

I suspect you are correct about this being tourist trade.

I think (don't know) this is called a Divination Bowl

An Engraved brass magical-medicinal bowl. Divination was used in medicine to try to determine the cause of an illness and to give some indication as to suitable treatments. This divination bowl may have been used by interpreting the reflection of light on its sides. Other divination methods include casting stones or studying the entrails of a sacrificed animal and interpreting the patterns made.
