Another example of a curiosity purchase. A pair of Art Deco sterling dishes/holders made by Reid & Sons, Newcastle 1934. They're 3 1/2" length, 2 1/4" width and weigh approximately 50 grams each. They do have a stamped registration number 798217. I'm scratching my head as to what their original purpose was. Thoughts?

I've seen similar pieces before that are meant to clip to the side of a plate. I'm trying to remember what would be put on it, but I'm thinking maybe discarded shrimp shells?

Hi June. I've seen the clip on items for plates with various descriptors. These have no end rims to keep things from falling onto the table and messing things up. The pair came in a Reid & Sons cardboard box which I believe was the packaging at the time of purchase.

I don't know and I hope someone who does will come along and say. My first guesses might be to hold a rolled up napkin? Or maybe to hold stalks of celery? Or maybe bones once you have eaten the meat off of them?
