I recently inherited my grandparents' sterling flatware, Towle's Lafayette pattern. Most of the pieces have standard Towle marks

near the bowl:
1. "925/1000"
2. a lion rampart in a script 'T' in a recessed square
3. "STERLING" in sans-serif caps in a recessed oval
Further down the handle:
4. a fleur-de-lis in a recessed oval
5. an eagle displayed with inverted wings in a recessed octogon.

The pieces are also stamped "Insull & Crabb" in small sans-serif caps to the left of the eagle mark.

John Charles Insull (ca. 1859-1921) worked for the New Haven, Conn., jeweler C. J. Munson from about 1897 to 1911, when he and Frederick Gardner Crabb (1866-1955) purchased Munson's fixtures and lease at 859 Chapel Street and continued as Insull and Crabb. Insull died in 1921 and Crabb continued as F. G. Crabb & Co. at the same location.

Insull & Crabb has been identified as a manufacturer on various websites, but they were really retailers.
