![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hello to all of the silver lovers. I don't know anything but we have inherited some silver and I'm willing to learn. Some we use every day because we like the feel and figure it's made to be used. I cannot figure out the maker from the mark on the back. Can anyone here interpret/identify? IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Yes, it seems as though John Owen (sr.) had two marks. Mine is like the one in the picture below. Maybe this is the older of the two marks he used.? Some folks seem to confuse the father and son, apparently both silversmiths, but the son is Jr. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Interestingly, I found this reference that indicates there was an "I. Owen" making silver around 1780-90. I wonder if some researchers have assumed the marks belonged to the one Owen they could find information about (John) but really this mark with the "I" belongs to another, perhaps his father.? All are in Philadelphia. Do we trust the Philadelphia Museum of Art over the other sources?
