Author | Topic: Polishing silver plate flatware with a tumbler |
Silver Tom Posts: 2 |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Is this website for those who make stuff from silver plate flatware? Many polish the finished product by tumbling it in a stainless steel tumbler medium. Results vary depending on the process. How do you use your tumbler? IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hi Tom. This Forum is fairly broad in covering silver and silverplate topics, though your interest in repurposing silverplate items might be a bit out of the mainstream for what we generally discuss. We tend to focus mostly on makers, their designs, the history behind silver and silverplate and the like. If you take a few moments to rummage through the various topics and postings within them you will get a better feel for the primary interests of people here. Your interest might be a bit out of the usual so you might not get much response because of this as opposed to if your interest was in who made your silverplate, how, when and where it was made, how to care for it, and similar questions. For example, I think most people in this Forum might shudder to think of polishing silverplate in a tumbler as opposed to polishing by hand with a soft cloth and gentle silver cleaning paste that conserves the items and their beautiful patinas since harsh methods tend to damage such things rather than preserve them. And yet, for your purposes perhaps such damage may not be a concern since you are cutting things up and hammering them flat and the like.
