My wife has always looked for things related to bees and such. These bee hives are inkwells; the one on the right just says on the bottom “Made in France” and the one on the left is unmarked but I suspect it was also made in France. When the “made in” mark is in English I assume it was made for the US market. I think they were both made in the early 1900s.
I do not know what the metal alloy/composition is, but it appears not to tarnish as I have never attempted to polish or clean them.

Thanks June. Bees and bee hives were very popular in the Victorian days and I think well into the 1900s.
I never did use an ink well, but when I was in law school I started using a fountain pen. I must admit I continued to write with one well after the time they were considered obsolete.
