John Bliss is listed as a chronometer maker in the 1850 U S Federal Census for Brooklyn, New York. In the same census two of his sons John and Samuel are listed as clerks.

John Bliss Jr is listed with the occupation chronometers in the 1860 U S
Federal Census for Brooklyn, New York. Samuel is in his brother's household
and also listed with the occupation chronometers.

Samuel is listed in New York Directories as well as his brothers John and Henry from the 1870's and probably earlier and into the 1880's with the occupations chronometers, thermometers and nautical instruments. Samuel is listed as a chronometer maker in the U S Federal Census's for Brooklyn, New York until at least 1880.
