It appears that Samuel's son George W Alexander went into the trade like his father. In the 1870 U S Federal Census for Hartford, Connecticut, seventeen year old George is listed as a clerk in his
family's household. In the 1880 U S Federal Census for Hartford, Connecticut George's occupation is givn as makes and repairs
jewelry.

Also from the census's it appears likely that Samuel's daughter Mary E married Irving Mason a jeweler because Irving was listed with the family in the 1860 U S Federal Census for Hartford, Connecticut.
In the 1870 U S Federal Census for Hartford, Connecticut and the 1880 U S Federal Census for West Hartford, Connecticut, Mary E is married to the jeweler Irving Mason and has a son named Louis I Mason who was born about 1866 in Connecticut.
